02 What is Job Dissatisfaction


 

Job dissatisfaction is a state of extreme boredom or tedium in which one feels that their job provides no challenge, meaning, and fulfillment. Job dissatisfaction is a common issue that affects most people at one point in their lives and creates an underlying sense of uneasiness. Job Dissatisfaction comes when employee's expectations for their job are not met.  Employee expect to be treated reasonably fairly and consistently. Security of the employment, good working conditions are expected and if the expectations are not met they have  a right to pursue a  grievance.

2.1 Signs of Job Dissatisfaction

These are some signs of job dissatisfaction employees should be aware of so that they can recognize when they are facing job dissatisfaction and find ways to overcome or manage this in the future. 

If the employee is not satisfied with his role, he may also find himself questioning or doubting your abilities. A role is considered unsatisfactory if there is no chance to grow within the company or if it does not provide personal growth opportunities. The employee may find that he is no longer able to motivate himself or take on additional responsibilities.

2.1.1 Lack of interest and enthusiasm

Employees are not willing tout much energy into completing their tasks. They seems to easily distracted by phones, chatting with coworkers, wondering from the work place or tend to attend their own personal businesses. Continuously taking time off from office hours for personal work is another sign of job dissatisfaction.

2.1.2 Procrastination

Employees wait until the last minute to complete the tasks or meet the dead lines producing the excuses about not completing the tasks.

2.1.3 Absenteeism

An employee who is not motivated to carry out their responsibilities would rather stay at home than attending work with many excuses. Also their departure time will be early and arrival may be late.

2.1.4 Declining Productivity

Constant declining of productivity is the first sign of noticing something's off. Utter and constant declining productivity shows an employee's lack of initiative to mend a situation.

2.1.5 Easily Irritable

It happens when an employee going through a bad day yet if it is a regular occurrence it denotes that they have job dissatisfaction. Constant irritation is a sign of being sick of something which is nerve good.

2.1.6 Frequent signs of stress, negativity and unhappiness

For most parts of the day your employees spend more time with each other almost anyone else. This generally brings a sense of belonging and friendliness which makes employees typically happy.

2.1.7 Lack of best efforts in work

When you see employees unwilling to put their best foot forward it means something is amiss. This something is the zeal to make a difference perform best to one ability and love one's work.

2.1.8 Lack of effective communication with team members

When the employees are dissatisfied with their jobs, they may not be able to communicate effectively with other coworkers, which can lead to communication issues between workers at different levels of an organization's hierarchy. Poor or lack of communication can have a negative effect on the performance and productivity of a team. Employees who do not communicate effectively find it difficult to work as a cohesive unit dedicated to achieving excellence in their jobs.

2.1.9 The incompatibility with company culture

Once an employee is not satisfied with his job he tends to feel the company culture and the management style is not go along with their personal values.


2.2 Causes of Job Dissatisfaction 




2.2.1 Underpaid

Not being paid what one is worth of his work. According to general job market a payment package is visible for most of job titles and as a consideration if it is not match the employee tend to feel dissatisfied.

2.2.2 Limited career growth

Not having the opportunity to climb the ladder and grow the career is a big cause for job dissatisfaction.

2.2.3 Lack of interest

One should not start a career on a stage that his does not have a passion for, Monotonous work cause boredom workplace productivity.

2.2.4 Poor Management

Managers with poor leadership skills tend to offer little feedback on employees’ performances. Not having the leadership required is another reason for dissatisfaction. People want to be led. They want to work with people who inspire them and have a vision. Without those people, an employee can feel as if the company is just drifting through space, waiting to run into something.

2.2.5 Unsupportive boss

Managers who disengage from their employees and focus only on results without providing inspiration, motivation or support are often unaware that they may be a major cause of job dissatisfaction.

2.2.6 Lack of meaningful work

The lack of meaningful work plays a big part in job dissatisfaction. Employees lose interest in work that offers no challenge.

2.2.7 Wok life balance

Companies that fail to recognize the need for employees to maintain a healthy life and work balance are ultimately affecting their productivity levels.

Instead of offering raises, companies might consider incentives such as paid days off, flexible scheduling, and rewards such as tickets to movies, plays, or sporting events.

2.3 Effects of Job Dissatisfaction

Employee dissatisfaction impacts many aspects of the work environment. From negatively influencing other team members to pushing patients and families away, the impact is felt day in and day out. Employee dissatisfaction often leads to negative reviews of services provided, poor quality work and higher turnover.

Productivity decline, hostile work environment and misappropriation of resources. Unhappy, disgruntled employees can create a tense, negative and stressful atmosphere in the workplace, which affects the overall productivity of the team. These same employees can cause a hostile work environment.

  1. very interesting article Pabasara. Job Dissatisfaction is a huge problem. At present we can find some serious results of job Dissatisfaction results a suicide. Specially internal conditions like coworkers influence and poor working environment contribute a lot.

  2. Accurately measuring job satisfaction or dissatisfaction is a challenge faced by many organizations. As the definition of satisfaction can differ among various people within an organization. I found this article to be really informative on recognizing the reasons behind job dissatisfaction.
